Most Popular Toyota Cars In Africa
Take a ride across the hills, plains, and deserts of Africa and count how many Toyotas you meet
. You will surely come to a point when youve either lost count or dont know what number comes next. Cars by the Japanese manufacturer have made it to the top ten list of most popular used cars in different African countries, according to the data compiled by tradecarview, Japans largest online used-car marketplace.
The
Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) cars are known for their high fuel efficiency, an important feature all cars in the sunny continent should possess, owing to its variable but generally hot weather conditions. This is the reason why, along with easy maintenance and low cost, the brand has gained a large following in Africa. Lets check out the sunny countries and their most popular TMC cars.
Uganda leads the convoy of the Japanese brands fans, with ten models taking all of the top ten spots in tradecarviews list of most popular pre-owned cars. The Corona Premio, Raum, Vitz, Noah, Corolla Spacio, Ipsum, Townace Noah, Mark II, Land Cruiser Prado, and Harrier populate Ugandas used-car market.
In Burundi, nine out of ten of the most popular cars are by Toyota: the Carina, Allion, Corolla Spacio, Corolla Sedan, Vitz, ist, Raum, Noah, and Voxy.
Both having eight TMC cars in their lists are Kenya (Corolla Fielder, Corolla Sedan, Probox Van, Wish, Premio, Vitz, Passo, ist) and Tanzania (Vitz, ist, Noah, RAV4, Carina, Corolla Spacio, Harrier, Raum).
Zambia is another fan, having seven TMC cars in their most-wanted list: the Corolla Sedan, Corolla Spacio, Vitz, Ipsum, Hiace Van, Noah, and the Altezza.
How does the company fare in other African countries? Toyota faces fierce competition with other established car manufacturers, but still manages to have cars in high demand.
In Algeria, the most popular used car is the Allex sedan. The Ipsum also places, as well as the industrial Dyna Truck. The Estima, RAV4, Avensis, and Land Cruiser Prado rank at the top of Angolas list. The Sienna, Highlander, and Camry enjoy the top spots in the Nigerian used-car market. Benin and Malis terrains demand a lot of SUVs, and the RAV4 lords over both lists. Over at Niger, the Land Cruiser is the top pick while the Hilux Surf is the favorite in Sierra Leone.
Toyotas also abound in Somalia; the top performers in the market are the Mark II, Sprinter Carib, Dyna Truck, Noah, Vitz, and the ist. In Sudan, larger vehicles that can accommodate a lot of people are the most popular: TMCs Hiace Van, Harrier, Land Cruiser Prado, Noah, and the Regius Wagon are very much in demand.
Its interesting to note that in Tunisia, the most popular in the automotive market is the Camry; next to the Camry (at second and third places) are construction equipment such as excavators and wheel loaders. This could mean that between breaks from the pursuit of development, Tunisians prefer to ride in style. Riding in comfort and style under the scorching sun is a challenging feat, but with Toyotas line of tough cars, Africans surely have nothing to worry about.
