Last year my friends and I were stumped about what to do on DC New Years Eve. There are so many exciting things going on all around the city that it's so hard to fit everything we wanted to do into one night. Between the clubs and the lounges and bars, we knew we'd have a hard time figuring out where to land at the stroke of midnight. Another issue was public transportation. Taxis are almost impossible to get and walking long distances in high heels in the freezing cold was not an option.
We decided that since there were many themed parties taking place at various hotels and clubs that we would go to one of those because then we could celebrate New Year Eve in Washington DC under one roof.
We looked on the Internet for parties and there were so many that the four of us just couldn't decide where to go. Many of the parties sounded like so much fun, but we also had to take into consideration the price. Since we were spending the night at a hotel because we knew we wouldn't be able to drive, money was definitely an issue. Since we wanted DC New Years Eve to be special we finally decided on a party we could afford, and it also sounded better then most of the other parties.
The party was a New Year's Eve Gala hosted by a social networking site called Professionals in the City at a beautiful hotel in downtown DC. The party took place in the same ballroom where the President and the First Lady had their first dance. It was 35,000 square foot that was divided up into different themed rooms. If you love to dance, this was the place to be! One room had a Bollywood theme where professional dancers taught us how to dance Bollywood style. There were other rooms with other types of dance and they were all very fun. There was also a great dinner and plenty of open bars with delicious champagne.
DC New Years Eve turned out to be a blast and after the party we stayed at the same hotel where the event took place. They had booked a block of rooms at a discounted rate that was great value for our wallets. If they throw another party next year we'll be there!
