Natural Cleaning Recipes

It's cleaning day and you've put everything away neatly

, you dusted and waxed the furniture as well as the floors. You've scrubbed the bathroom from top to bottom and you've changed the bed linens and cleaned the oven. Then you used a great new air freshener.

Your home is sparkling clean and smells great. Did you know that you most likely breathed in at least a dozen toxic chemicals that are contained in the household products you used.. You probably did not realize they can possibly cause health problems for you and your familyanywhere from allergies and general malaise to lung irritation to those with asthma and even cancer.

Today most cleaning products are laden with toxic chemicals. There does not seem to be much the government is doing about it either.

So, what can you do?

You can make your own using natural cleaning recipes with everyday ingredients purchased from your local grocer.

Here are a few ideas

Plain white distilled vinegar is great for cutting grease, grime and soap scum. Put it in a spray bottle and use on your bathroom tiles. Use as a window and glass cleaner - spray a mixture of white distilled vinegar (1/4 cup vinegar to 1/2 gallon of water) and scrub off with newspaper. The newspaper will absorb the water and leaves no streaks.

To polish your furniture you can use 3/4 cup olive oil mixed with 1/4 cup vinegar. Apply to furniture with soft cloth and polish.

To scrub your bathroom sink and kitchen counter you can use baking soda and water. Sometimes I add a few drops of peppermint essential oil to the mix to give it a fresh smell. For the bathroom I add lavender oil.

Lemon is a great grease cutter. For cleaning your oven mix equal parts of lemon juice and salt. Apply to the oven and let it sit for 15 minutes. Then use a heavy duty scrubber and rinse and wipe dry.

And instead of using a can of air freshener that can contain chemicals implicated in neurological damage, reproductive disorders and other conditions, just pick out your favorite essential oil and sprinkle some on your carpet or put in a spray bottle mixed with a little water and spray away!

By making your own natural cleaning recipes you can help avoid the many household product toxins that are certainly detrimental to the health of you and your family.
