Nba Tickets - Early Fantasy Pickups
Here are some players that shined in the first week of the 2009-10 NBA season and could be worth a roster spot in your fantasy basketball league.
Brandon Jennings, Point Guard, Milwaukee Bucks: Jennings is the crown jewel of the fantasy basketball waiver wire right now. He nearly notched a triple-double in his first game as a pro and he followed it up with a 24-point performance the following game. He's going to get huge minutes as the starting point guard in Milwaukee, and though some bumps should be expected along the road, he should be a viable fantasy option all season thanks to the opportunities he'll have on that team. This kid is electric and will sell a lot of NBA tickets throughout his career.
Andray Blatche, Forward/Center, Washington Wizards: Blatche has done a great job filling in for the injured Antawn Jamison early on. He's better-suited for the four than the five, where he played mostly last season. He's also ceased fancying himself as a jump shooter and is still learning the game. Jamison will return in a few weeks and Blatche's value will take a hit, but he could have earned himself a role in the rotation regardless.
Channing Frye, Center, Phoenix Suns: Frye has had an odd career, successful at the start and less exciting since, but he fits Phoenix's system very nicely. He's got three-point range on his shot and he's been utilizing it early and often this season. He's the starting center and should be a solid option going forward.
Marreese Speights, Power Forward, Philadelphia 76ers: I usually don't recommend using bench players, but Speights seems to be in line for significant minutes off the bench, despite the presence of Elton Brand. He's a really talented forward that seems to be dedicating himself to the game. He's got All-Star potential and would have serious value were Brand to go down again. Even with Brand healthy, Speights is worth owning.
Ben Wallace, Center, Detroit Pistons: Wallace must have turned back the clock a bit now that he's returned to Detroit. He's averaging double-digit rebounds and contributing in the defensive categories, as well. He won't get you points and he can hurt your free throw percentage, but he looks like he has value.
Martell Webster, Guard/Forward, Portland Trail Blazers: Webster's minutes could decrease when Nicolas Batum returns, but not if Webster keeps up the good work on defense. Batum is a Nate McMillan favorite due to his defense, but Webster is a much more polished offensive weapon. He can contribute in every category, but has the potential to be a real boost in three-pointers.
Anthony Parker, Guard/Forward, Cleveland Cavaliers: Parker is going to produce across the board this season for Cleveland, and I expect him to garner more and more of a role as the season goes on. He's one of the best players on the team, but needs to be a little more selfish at times. I think he could help LeBron James out a lot.
J.J. Redick, Shooting Guard, Orlando Magic: If Vince Carter's injury ends up being serious, then Redick could have some very nice value. Mickael Pietrus will diminish it, though, once he returns. Redick might be worth a flyer if you need threes.
