Nba Tickets - Fantasy Surprises
Here are some players who have performed surprisingly well in fantasy basketball in the early going of the 2009-10 season.
Josh Smith, Forward, Atlanta Hawks: It's not that Smith hasn't been a good fantasy player in years past, but he could be turning into an elite one. His improved shot selection has helped his field goal percentage even though he's not hitting any threes anymore, and he's playing more under control. His penchant for thunderously blocking shots not only sells NBA tickets, but also makes him one of the best sources of blocks in fantasy basketball, especially from a non-center position.
Andrea Bargnani, Power Forward/Center, Toronto Raptors: Not too long ago, Bargnani was being viewed as a bust after being selected with the first pick in the 2006 NBA Draft. He's off to a great start in 2009-10, though, shooting a nice percentage and hitting threes. He's center-eligible, and though he won't get you a ton of boards, getting three-pointers from the center position is always a nice bonus.
Ben Gordon, Shooting Guard, Detroit Pistons: Gordon has benefited from an injury to Rip Hamilton, so his value should diminish some once Hamilton returns, but he's been great to start the season. He's scoring and hitting threes, as is expected, but he's been shooting a very good percentage from both the field and the line, as well. He's also dishing the ball a bit more than expected and keeping his turnovers down.
Marc Gasol, Center, Memphis Grizzlies: Gasol is certainly not suffering from a sophomore slump. He's been a great rebounder this season and is scoring better than he did in his rookie campaign. Some thought that his value would drop since the team drafted center Hasheem Thabeet with the second pick in the draft this offseason, but Thabeet is not ready to log major minutes and Gasol is making the most of his playing time. He's also been blocking shots with more regularity, which makes him even more valuable.
Al Horford, Power Forward/Center, Atlanta Hawks: Horford had a fantastic rookie season and then dropped off a bit last year, but he's healthy this season and bouncing back in a big way. Through eight games, Horford is averaging a double-double, shooting better than 50 percent from the floor and blocking more than two shots per game. For where he was likely drafted, that's great value.
Andre Bynum, Center, Los Angeles Lakers: It looks like this could be Bynum's big breakout season. Though his numbers have been inflated by the absence of Pau Gasol, Bynum has been a beast. He's missed a few games with an elbow injury, but he's really produced in the ones he's partaken in. Through five games, Bynum is averaging 20 and 10 and doing a little bit of everything else, as well. He looks like he will be a superstar if he can stay healthy, something that has been a challenge for him so far in his career.
Joakim Noah, Center, Chicago Bulls: If you haven't already noticed, the center position has had a ton of early breakout fantasy players. Noah is another young center who has taken strides. We could kind of see Noah starting to get it last season, and his great performances in the playoffs fortified the idea that he was figuring it out. He's rebounding the ball like a madman and playing good defense.
