Now we have all had chance to break our New Year Resolutions, maybe it is time to make one we know it will be possible to keep. Our resolutions usually are about us - losing weight, getting fit, getting on better with the mother-in-law etc. They are all about making changes, so why not make changes around us instead of to us?

The ideal place to start is in the home. We spend more time in our homes during the winter months, and usually start noticing how tired it is beginning to look - thus spring brings out all the DIY in us.

Taking one room at a time, how about giving it a makeover without having to lift a paint brush! More and more people like the continental look and like being "different" from their neighbours. Without having to leave your armchair, you can transform your home into a French country-style home. Genuine articles from France, including kitchen accessories, dining accessories and pottery can be purchased via the internet and can give your home a new look.

Whether you chose place mats, table linen or crockery, your dining room will have a French "feel" to it. French blackboards can be used as menu boards when you invite friends round, leaving them feeling very impressed. When you feel the need to redecorate, there are many wall hangings to choose from, but even without redecorating, you can convert your dining room into a French Bistro!

Trays, oven mits, trivots, cutlery, crockery, tea towels, tea, coffee and sugar containers to name but a few items will give your kitchen that continental look. French pottery together with small authentic items of furniture scattered around, completes the picture, and the urge to add to your collection will go on for many years.

It will not just be a New Year Resolution, but you will find it ends up being a New Decade Resolution.
