New York Trails For Your New York Tails
If you are lucky enough to have a found a place that will let you keep dogs in New York City
, don't fret finding a place for them to run as it is just a little bit easier.
New York City provides multiple areas and parks where you can take your dog as long as you obey the rules. In fact, most city parks in New York City allow dogs as long as they are leashed.
There are a few special rules however, when it comes to having your dogs out in public in the city and surrounding neighborhoods that you may want to be aware of as failure to comply may result in fines or even impounding of the animal.
First of all, failing to curb your pet may result in a $250 fine and if you cannot control your dog in a public area or city park, you may either be thrown out of the park or your dog may be impounded.
There are certain times of the day that your dog can run without a leash in certain areas of most parks. However, you must have a dog license and rabies vaccination and they are only allowed to run free from the time the park opens until 9 am and from 9 pm until the park closes.
Most parks have designated areas for different types of activities. Most New York City parks have a No Dogs Allowed area, which should be marked with a sign. You and your dog are required to keep out of that area completely.
There are also areas found with signs that say Dogs must be on a leash at all times. When you enter these areas your dogs obviously must stay leashed or you risk receiving a fine.
Dog runs are a common area found in most inner city parks as well. It is a fenced in area where your dog can run free without a leash at any time. These have been specially designed for you and your pets so take advantage of them.
One of the best dog parks in NYC is called Prospect Park in Brooklyn Heights. Much of this park provides off leash areas for your convenience. This park provides pet owners with extended hours for off leash play and amenities for both you and your dog.
Some amenities found are plenty of trees, huge off leash areas, (up to 20 acres in one place), restrooms, and water fountains with dog troughs for your dog.
In this park there are, however, no dog runs so if you are not in one of the designated fields during the off leash hours you must keep your dog on a leash at all times.
Another lavish dog park is called E. 60 Pavillion Esplanade. It is located within New York City itself and is a private dog park. In order to take your dog to this park you must pay a membership fee of $15 a year which is a great price considering the amenities offered.
This park is fenced in and has benches, handicap access, doggie duty bags, lights, water and trash cans. People find this park to consist of well behaved dogs and their well behaved owners.
