New school to nurture inventive minds
Students who likes structures and appreciate being guided step by sep in mastering a particular subject
. They don't blindly memorize facts. Instead try their best to understand the subject or information so can apply it nest time. Students like this system because, they prefer knowing exactly what he/she has to cover and how best to learn it. In the literature classes he/she had to role-playing. For history, he/she has watched a short film on World War I and used the Internet to find out the various factors that led to the war in Europe. He/she learnt about osmosis and diffusion, the mathematical principles of congruence and similarity. Students, who is studying pure biology, physics and chemistry , will be tested on these subjects. One of the benefits of being in the programme could be that students become more vocal and participate actively in class discussions. Students think generally don't speak up, not because they don't know what to say, but because some students lack the confidence to put forward their ideas and opinions.
Let each student see himself/herself as a leader by giving him/her some learning responsibility. If a class is divided up into groups of four, he/she could be :
( a ) the Hush-Hush keeper, the one who ensures the group doesn't make too much noise;
( b ) the Recorder, who writes down everyone's ideas;
( c ) the Encourager, who sees that everyone is given a fair chance to speak; or
( d ) the Time-Keeper, who ensures the group keeps track of the time they have been given to complete an assignment.
Each student is also given a stack of talking chips in a color different from the other three in his/her group, and is required to hold up his/her chip before he/she speaks. But he/she can only do so after the student speaking has placed his/her in the centre of the table, indicating that he/she has finished what he/she has to say. Students learn not to speak when someone else is talking, and it also helps the teachers gauge who has been involved in the discussion and who hasn't by counting the number of chips contributed by each student. When they divide the students into groups, teachers also ensure that each group has a quick learner, two average learners and a slow learner, students from different races and two of each gender. This way, students learn to interact with others of different abilities, races and gender. These groups are usually shuffled every semester.
