Nfl Tickets - Week 8 Observations

Here are some things that stood out to me in Week 8 of the 2009 NFL season.

The Colts are able to win ugly. The 49ers did a good job against the Colts, confusing Peyton Manning with defensive line shifts and strange looks. They did enough to slow down the powerful Indy offense, but the Colts were still able to take home the victory. It wasn't a blowout and it didn't look pretty, but a win is a win and you have to be able to win ugly if you're going to go deep in the playoffs in the NFL. The Colts' exciting offense sells a lot of NFL tickets, but fans will be glad to know that the Colts can win the more hard-fought games, as well.

The San Francisco 49ers are headed in the right direction. As noted above, the Niners gave the undefeated Colts a run for their money and were able to move the ball pretty well with Alex Smith at the helm. He really shined toward the end of the first half when he was able to run the two-minute drill out of the shotgun, out of which he played almost exclusively at Utah under Urban Meyer. Smith is simply able to make more throws than Shaun Hill. He should be the starter for the rest of the season.

Dallas is the new favorite in the NFC East. The Giants are having their troubles and the Eagles don't seem to be consistent enough right now. I like what I'm seeing from the Cowboys and I really like wide receiver Miles Austin. Tony Romo seems to like Austin, as well, and this combo could be deadly going forward. They're a balanced team and I think they are the frontrunners in the NFC East right now. They'll really be tested when they visit the currently undefeated New Orleans Saints on Dec. 19.

The Dolphins are a gritty team. They just find ways to win. It's hard to bet against this team because they always seem to find a way. They beat the Jets in both meetings this season after it seemed like New York outplayed them in both games. They're playing well with the wildcat and a first-year starter at quarterback. They almost upset the Saints two weeks ago, and they'll probably upset some teams down the stretch as they play spoiler at the very least.

Steven Jackson would be awesome on a better team. He's having a really productive season, but the Rams' deficiencies are hurting that production. He'd be a beast on a playoff team. There was talk that he was going to be traded before the deadline, but nothing materialized. He's probably one of the more underrated players in the league because he plays for a team that has really struggled over the last two seasons. He's still racking up yards, though touchdowns are difficult to come by.

Anybody who counted out the Ravens was very wrong to do so. They lost some games to some good teams; that's really what it came down to. They're a young offense that is going to hit some bumps in the road, but Joe Flacco and Ray Rice are studs. That duo is going to be very good for a long time.
