Nike Company: Early Developments And Later Success
The Nike's logo "just do it" has been well-known by people in all corners of the world
. For either the kids, or old people, Nike shoes are not strange. The above situations manifest the success of Nike and Nike is absolutely a great company comparing to Adidas.
Among NBA players, lots of the famous stars choose Nike shoes, for example, the megastars Jordan and Kobe, in addition, when it comes to the football field, the players also tend to wear Nike sheos more instead of Adidas. Nike SB shoes refer to shoes which are designed specially for skateboarding. As time goes, Nike also develops its business into other fields, like golf sports, thus Nike golf shoes are designed. Thus, in this way, gradually, Nike will grow up the number one company. But as its history goes, from a little one, until a worldly known company, Nike also has struggles on its road to success.
In 1964, Nike company was established by the informal agreement between Bill Bowerman who was a track coach from University of Oregon and Phil Knight who was a middle-distance runner. These two people endowed this company with the name Blue Ribbon Sports and began their business in the U.S. by importing running shoes of Onitsuka Tiger which was a Japanese brand and now is called ASICs.
In the year of 1967, Knight and Bowerman made a formal agreement, then a register BRS Inc came into the world. This company then employed Jeff Johnson as the first full-time salesperson in 1965 and began to sell the first series of Blue Ribbon Sports' products by this channel in 1966. in 1971, the company benefited a lot from Johnson: one night, Johnson had a dream, and in the dream, Nike, the Greek goddess of victory appeared. Later, his bosses got a suggestion of this name from him. When the first footwear products, a series of soccer cleat, were released, the company applied this nick name to its shoes, and these shoes were featured with the "Swoosh" mark. In fact, at that time, Knight suggested another name, say, the Dimension 6.
As to the design of the Swoosh trademark, this should attribute to Carolyn Davidson. As a college student in Portland State University, her major was graphic-design. By this design, she earned thirty-five dollars.
Bowerman hoped to have more business, thus he tried to create athletic shoes with rubber spikes. Bowerman first got some liquid rubber in his wife's waffle iron, then an innovative running-shoe sole appeared. In this way, Bowerman made it. In 1972, the athletes who took part in the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore applied the Nike "Moon Shoes" with the characteristic of waffle sole released by the company. Later, for other shoes made by the company, they were all designed with waffle outsole. Among them, some types are the most famous, like the Waffle Racer, Air Force One and Nike Air Max 97.
Nike shoes were worn by more and more famous athletes. And Mark Covert was regarded as the number one athlete as a runner to win the competition with Nike shoes.
