Obama Grants Help Put Education First

Education is always an important key to a good future

. President Obama is a good example, and he has shown his commitment to helping others. Grants and scholarships are just the beginning of efforts to try to make over higher education.

Expenses like college tuition and housing grow even as the economy suffers. Schools don't offer scholarships to ever student to cover necessary expenses. Many young adults choose to forgo college because of the cost. Working, single mothers are particularly hit hard. Not only does educating mothers help provide for their families, but it also improves the workforce. The President has attempted to help by encouraging more grants for single mothers to attend school. There is no difference between Federal Pell Grants and Obama grants. The name "Obama grants" came as a result of the President's emphasis on educating moms. Currently students can earn about $5,350 through a Pell grant. Before Pell grants maxed out at about $4,000. Working mothers can pay for tuition and books or even daycare if that allows them to attend school.

The American Opportunity Tax Credit is also a very valuable program. Under this incentive program, education costs up to $4,000 are cleared. The $4,000 grant is especially great for low-income students. A grant for a working mother as well as a tax credit can help fund much-appreciated educational advancement. Students have numerous school options: full-time or part-time, 2-year or 4-year college, multiple majors. Now the expenses are just a little lighter, and eager mothers can enroll in school.

The President has demonstrated that he considers this issue a priority. Through the recent stimulus package, many undergraduate and graduate loans will be less of a burden. There is more government emphasis on properly preparing students for their future at all levels of education. Higher education at a 2-year college can be a great option, and there is emphasis being put on that fact. A 2-year degree or the time spent learning a technical school from a community college can be a tremendous asset.

In his 2007 Reclaiming the American Dream speech, Obama stated, "We need to put a college education within reach of every American. That's the best investment we can make in our future." The President's actions are reflecting his words. The mission to educate all Americans is certainly helped by providing scholarships for mothers. Traditional and non-traditional students alike have numerous opportunities to put their education first.
