Obama Grants for Mothers: The Key to the Future
Obama Grants for Mothers: The Key to the Future
If you want to be successful, getting a good education is a good start. President Obama is a good example, and he has shown his commitment to helping others. Free money through grants and scholarships is only the beginning. Expenses like college tuition and housing grow even as the economy suffers. Schools don't offer scholarships to ever student to cover necessary expenses. Unfortunately some students turn away from higher education because it's too expensive. Working, single mothers are particularly hit hard. Educating women and single moms is important to increase the workforce and help provide for children and families. The President believes in this and has begun a mission to create scholarships for moms. There is no difference between Federal Pell Grants and Obama grants. The name "Obama grants" came as a result of the President's emphasis on educating moms. In the 2009-2010 school year, students could get a grant of up to $5,350. This is an increase of $1,000 over the previous maximum, and the goal is to help working mothers return to school. These grants can be used to cover many of the miscellaneous college expenses. Single moms should also consider the American Opportunity Tax Credit. With this tax program, the first $4,000 of community college or university expenses are free. At less expensive schools in particular this is a big credit. Single moms often fall into this group, so these programs are particularly beneficial to them. Another great factor is that students aren't particularly targeted based on what or where they study. Diversity is encouraged. Moms and students of all kinds can go to school with a little less to worry about. The President has demonstrated that he considers this issue a priority. The stimulus plan that passed has some provisions to make the college loan process easier. In addition, the government is focusing on helping schools improve teaching and students improve performance. Since many overlook community colleges, there is emphasis on increasing their effectiveness and appeal. Community colleges are more than a stepping stone on the way to a university. They are valuable institutions. In his 2007 Reclaiming the American Dream speech, Obama stated, "We need to put a college education within reach of every American. That's the best investment we can make in our future." So far Obama's actions are backing up his words. Scholarships for moms are only a small part of the mission to help educate more people. If you're a potential student who wants to make education a priority, there are many chances for you to do so.
