Obama Scholarships for Mothers: A College Education Within Reach
Obama Scholarships for Mothers: A College Education Within Reach
If you want to be successful, getting a good education is a good start. President Obama is a good example, and he has shown his commitment to helping others. Free money through grants and scholarships is only the beginning. College expenses continue to increase even as the economy slumps. Schools don't offer scholarships to ever student to cover necessary expenses. Many young adults choose to forgo college because of the cost. Working, single mothers are particularly hit hard. More education helps single mothers achieve on their jobs and take care of their families. More scholarships for single moms is one way to improve the situation. There is no difference between Federal Pell Grants and Obama grants. The name "Obama grants" came as a result of the President's emphasis on educating moms. With these grants, college-bound students can receive over $5,000 to pay for school. Before Pell grants maxed out at about $4,000. With these grants for moms, they can pay for tuition, books or any other school-related expenses. Another incentive to consider is the American Opportunity Tax Credit. Under this incentive program, education costs up to $4,000 are cleared. This $4,000 write off can be a big help to many students. Since many single working mothers have low incomes, these programs are a major help. Another great factor is that students aren't particularly targeted based on what or where they study. Diversity is encouraged. With a few less money worries, more single mothers can attend college. With his actions President Obama has confirmed his belief in this issue. With the recent passage of the economic stimulus plan, a lot of college loans will be offered by the government. Preparing schools and students for success is an important Obama administration mission. Another goal is to encourage more students to attend community colleges. Community college is important to prepare students for a 4-year college but also to prepare them for a 2-year degree or technical skill. "We need to put a college education within reach of every American. That's the best investment we can make in our future." Those are the words of President Obama in his 2007 speech Reclaiming the American Dream. The President has shown a good effort to support his words through action. Even though Obama's grants for moms get much attention they are certainly not the only important opportunity being offered. Traditional and non-traditional students alike have numerous opportunities to put their education first.
