Oneworld Alliance Welcomes New Ceo Bruce Ashby

Gerard Arpey, Chairman of the Oneworld Governing Board and Chairman and Chief Executive of American Airlines, said:

We are equally fortunate that John can pass the baton to Bruce, who brings a track record of tremendous experience, success and knowledge of our industry to Oneworld as we continue to strengthen its competitive position and service to customers."

Mr. McCulloch, who has welcomed Mr. Ashby as his successor said at this occasion:

The relocation of our central alliance team to the world's biggest airline market at this stage in one worlds evolution makes clear sense. Personal circumstances prevent me from being part of that future, but I am committed to achieving a full and seamless transition, working with Bruce as he beds in, to ensure Oneworld continues on its journey towards pre-eminence."

Bruce Ashby will be taking Oneworld central team to heart of world's biggest air travel market Office in New York City. As part of the relocation plan, the Oneworld office will be shared by American Airlines, British Airways and other member airlines to establish itself firmly as the world's premier alliance. 2010 is said to be the "breakthrough year" for Oneworld alliance.

New York airport is used by around 110 million passengers a year, making it world's single biggest air travel market. Also it is served by more flights by more Oneworld member airlines than any other city round the globe. One world is currently headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada since its establishment.

Oneworld alliance is the biggest airline alliance in the world launched on 1 February 1999 and holds 12 full members, 2 pending members and 20 non-voting member affiliates. Its airlines service to 872 destinations worldwide in 146 countries and hold a massive fleet size of 2,470 aircrafts.

Also, Oneworld is branded as one of the world's three largest global airline alliances originally founded by American Airlines, British Airways, Canadian Airlines, Cathay Pacific and Qantas Airline. It has been voted the world's Best Airline Alliance in the 2002, 2004 and 2005 Business Traveler Awards. Mr. Bruce Ashby is well reckoned airline industry veteran, who has joined the central alliance team today as Oneworld Chief Executive. He has an extensive 16 years working experience with US airlines, latterly as Senior Vice-President Alliances and then Executive Vice-President Marketing for US Airways.
