Packing And The First Night In A New Home
Now that you have made all of the necessary arrangements for your move
, it is time to begin packing. This can seem like an overwhelming task, but taken one step at a time, it is manageable.
The first step is to create labels for boxes and bags that will mark which room or whose property the stuff in the box is. This will make unpacking the truck much easier later on.
If you have children, assign them this task, and encourage them to have fun with it. By the time they are done you may have fantastic works of art.
Teenagers and pre-teens can provide tremendous help to you as you are preparing to move. It is an opportunity for them to show you that they are mature and can handle responsibility.
They are old enough to recognize that packing is a lot of work and that you will need help. They will also recognize that the move can be very stressful on younger siblings and that they can use comfort and guidance from their older brother or sister.
Teenagers can also provide helpful ideas and suggestions about how to pack things. If you are a teenager look around during moving day when you have nothing to do and ask yourself what else you can do.
There could be sorting, packing, comforting and cleaning that needs to be done. If a list of things to do has been created, take a look and see what you can check off before your parents notice.
If you have time, you could help younger children create labels for their boxes. You could even create labels for yourself.
The labels can tremendously help the moving day stay organized. It will also ensure that your things do not get lost in a sea of things and boxes.
You can take care of and plan packing for yourself. This way you can make sure that important things do not get thrown out and that breakable items are packed safely.
Think about which things you will need to use first. Pack these things last so that they are easily accessible.
The things that are packed first will be at the bottom of the box and the box will be at the bottom of the pile. Then, remember to label them.
When your family arrives at the new home, the last thing your family will want to do is unpack. You will all be tired and ready for a good night's sleep.
Of course, you will have to unpack a few clothes, hygiene needs, and food. However, the first night in a new home should be celebratory.
Leave some entertainment easy to unpack to that you can relax the first night in the new home. As you begin to unpack, your new life is beginning.
The house will not become a home by simply unpacking. A home is made by the family that lives there.
Try to avoid conflict by resolving arguments quickly and being willing to help. As the family becomes comfortable in the house, it will become your home.
Settling in can be a lot of fun as you get to design the layout of your new room. The adjustment to the new home becomes an adventure for young children as they begin to explore the new house and yard.
As an older sibling you can encourage their excitement by exploring with them and telling them adventurous stories. You will also be able to tell if they are having doubts and concerns about the new area.
They look up to you as the older sibling, so you will be able to address these fears and help them become comfortable in the new home. As parents and teenagers work together to make the move uneventful and smooth, the entire family will be able to make the transition easier for everyone.
