Philadelphia 76ers Tickets - Roster Rundown
Here is a look at the most relevant players on the 2009-10 Philadelphia 76ers and their roles going forward.
Elton Brand, Forward: Brand will probably make or break this season for the Sixers. He was the big offseason acquisition two summers ago, but he was injured early in the season and missed most of the year. He's back in 2009-10, but there are questions about how well he fits in on this team. Brand is a post player that excels in the half-court set, but the rest of this team is young and thrives in an up-tempo system. Brand provides interior scoring for them, though, which is something that they've sorely lacked with him. He's still the best player on this team and could be in for a bounce-back season.
Andre Iguodala, Guard/Forward: Iguodala seems to think he's a franchise player and the Sixers may feel the same, but I'm not totally convinced. He seems to have that takeover ability, but I don't see him dominate games as often as he should. He could be the perfect player to play second fiddle to a superstar. He can score, pass and rebound and plays great defense. I don't think he's a star, though.
Thaddeus Young, Forward: Thaddeus Young could be a star in the making. He's athletic and has great size for the small forward position, and his skills are coming along nicely. He seems to be improving on his three-point shot, something that would make him extremely difficult to guard. He could be the total package, but he still seems a bit passive at times. He may be the future of the franchise, but the organization would like him to step it up sooner rather than later. He's got the ability to sell a ton of Philadelphia 76ers tickets.
Louis Williams, Guard: Williams is taking over the starting point role now that Andre Miller is in Portland. Williams is a really talented young guard that has shown flashes of brilliance in the past. He's a natural scorer, but his playmaking ability is a question mark. He's getting a shot to run this team, though, and could grow into the role more as the season progresses. He's a major key to this team's success.
Jason Kapono, Guard/Forward: Kapono was a really nice pickup for the Sixers in the offseason. They acquired him from Toronto via trade in order to bolster their three-point shooting, an area in which the team was really lacking last season. Kapono is a dead-eye and could get a lot of open looks, especially with a low-post presence like Brand.
Marreese Speights, Forward: Speights is really talented and could be in for an impressive season, despite being stuck behind Brand on the bench. He'll get his minutes, and as long as he stays motivated and in shape, he should show some signs of things to come.
Jrue Holiday, Guard: Holiday might not see a lot of time on the floor initially, but the team may look for him to assume the backup point guard role as the season wages on. He's immensely talented and possesses great size for the position.
Royal Ivey, Guard: Ivey was a nice addition, as well. I've always like his game and he's a solid backup point guard thanks to his savvy and decision-making.
Rodney Carney, Forward: Carney could be a nice bench player if he can harness his awesome athleticism.
