Preparing For A Trip Away

Preparing for any holiday trip is always a difficult process

. With more and more families opting for the staycation, the onus falls upon parents to prepare for self-catering holidays around the country, or what is infinitely more demanding, the camping trip. Though the words might strike fear into the heart of any parent intent on actually having a relaxing holiday away from home, the reality is that they can be a fun way to increase family bonding and teach your children about the great outdoors. With a little preparation and a lot of extra time, you can ensure that your camping trip is fun and educational for all involved.

Once you have settled on a destination and camping site, the first step is to start preparing a list of what you will need to take. Ideally, this will not just be left until the last minute, but will be compiled over a few weeks so that you have the chance to remember any idiosyncratic things that one of your offspring might need. So it is also a good idea to start collecting those disparate things together. After all, there is nothing worse than running around the day before desperately trying to find those items you put down somewhere.

Things that can be sourced from home should be the first to go in a box and then you can start sourcing extra items that you need to buy. Remember to cover every contingency because if it can go wrong, it certainly will do. It is probably a good idea to sort through what you might need according to time. So, for example, what things will you need for when you first get up? Dressing gowns and slippers might be a nice idea (especially if it is cold), as well as tea and coffee making facilities and everything you need for breakfast. Go through the day chronology and hopefully you should have compiled a list of all that you want from the gas-powered tent light to your daughters One Direction branded water bottle.

Indeed, if you want to make the preparation scheduled that little bit easier, then it is a good idea to bribe your children with the promise of some bit of kit that they want. This might be a microscope to look at bugs with on the trip or the already mentioned One Direction water bottle. Either way, once you get out in the open there will be enough distractions to keep them occupied until you return to civilisation.
