Preparing Yourself before Interviews
I can remember my first experience in applying for a job
. It was nerve wracking and I kept on thinking that I'd fail. Although, I had enough confidence to know that I have the abilities and am qualified for the position that I was applying for. I had to send about 10 resumes to different companies and didn't get a reply from even one of them. That didn't discourage me from sending more though and was rewarded when two companies replied. They scheduled for an interview. That was the break that I was waiting for.
So how can someone prepare before an interview? Are there rules that need to be followed?
A smart and knowledgeable person would know what to do. Everybody knows what is normally expected in an interview and the best way to prepare for that is to be at least one step ahead of the interviewer. An applicant knows his own strengths and weaknesses and so he knows which skill he has to highlight and which weaknesses he has to explain.
A good preparation is very important. It's not enough that you know how to sell yourself, it's also important to know something about the company that you're applying for.
I prepared for that interview by researching online about the company. I visited its website and read about what the company is all about. I found out many things that I felt could have been asked, and also made me confident that I am really qualified for the job. I wanted to work in a company that has a vision for the future. Reading about the company's policy and visions made me realize what kind of company it is.
I then made a list of possible questions that the interviewer may ask. I practiced in front of the mirror. It was a good way of me knowing how I would look when answering to the interviewer. It made me confident about the way I speak and deliver the answers.
The day before the scheduled interview, I checked the outfit that I would wear. I made sure that it was professional looking and fits my personality. I believe that the right outfit would make someone stand out and be confident. It's dressing for success.
On the day of the interview, I took my time in dressing up. I made sure that I had enough time left to arrive at the appointment and still be relaxed. I arrived about 10 minutes before the scheduled time and spent it reading a magazine. It was a relaxing activity which I think really helped me. Even before I went inside the interview room, I felt that the job was mine. And I did get it.
