Prepping Up Your Beach House

Isn't it nice to cap off a day of swimming and a night of partying with a warm and

cozy recluse in a relaxing beach house? The place being a beautiful abode is not a bad idea either.

Wood or tile floors will be great for your beach house, as these are easy to maintain and will not trap dirt or sand. Pile up some pillows and cushions on the floor to sit or lay on. For your covers, use materials such as denim, linen or twill as these do not wear fast and are easy to clean. For the fabric designs, you can chose motifs of palm trees, tropical flowers or sea shells.

There's no need to cover the floor with carpet. With the sand, wet footprints and perhaps, trailing moss every time you set foot in your house, carpeted floor is not exactly a breeze for household cleaning. Why not go for area rugs instead? Not only will area rugs add color, shape and design to your home, they will also give more texture to your interiors. The natural fibers of sisal and sea grass contribute to the outdoorsy feel and the soft, relaxing ambiance of what an ideal beach house should have.

Bold colors are not advisable. You would want to go as light and cool as possible. Make use of the beach colors you see - blue, green, tan, cream, white and some brown. Make your home as soothing as possible, and deep, bold colors won't do that.

You don't have to have window treatments for your beach house as you want it to be as airy as possible. But if you must, go for sheer curtains or shutters in pristine white for a complete look.

If you're thinking about more decorations, look no more. Down at the beach, there are free items you can make use of - seashells and coral pieces in varying colors, shapes and sizes. These will make amazing decors especially when made into centerpieces. Smaller shells can be collected and laid out on a board. Frame the board and you have an instant wall hanging.

The furniture pieces don't have to be fancy. In fact, the simpler the furnishings, the more suitable to the beach house look. Wicker and bamboo materials are top choices for such a design. You can also hang a hammock by the balcony and some lounge chairs for those quiet afternoon rests.

Take your cue from the wide expanse of sand and sea that you see outside your beach house. Similarly, make your house as spacious as possible. Don't use too many items and end up crowding your space. The more airy your beach house looks and feels, the more you'll feel comfortable and relaxed. Just perfect for your vacation.
