Jodhpur is a princely city of Rajasthan where the royalty of the bygone era reflects in all its glorious manifestation. Mehrangarh Fort
It is the landmark of the state which is a captivating attraction. Perched on a hill, the fort was built by Rao Jodha in the year 1459. There are wonderful palaces, temples, apartments and galleries inside the fort's complex. One has to pass through the seven gates to enter the fort. The architectural beauty and exquisite carvings of the fort are truly mesmerizing. The apartments which deserve special mention are Sheesh Mahal, Takat Vilas and Phool Mahal. There is a museum inside the fort which displays royal belongings of the then kings and queens. One must visit the Elephant Howdahs gallery to see stunning howdahs.
Umaid Bhawan palace
Its breathtaking architectural beauty will surely leave you enchanted. This majestic palace was once the largest residence in the world. It was built on the Chittar Hill in 1929 by Maharaja Umed Singh to provide employment to poor people. There are around 347 apartments in this palace which are beautifully decorated. Sprawling over an area of 26 acres, the palace was designed by Henry Lanchester, an Edwardian architect of repute. Some portion of the palace has been transformed into a heritage hotel for tourism purposes. The museum of the palace showcases a variety of royal articles.
