The very first thing you want to ask yourself when you decide to start a home based business is "What do I want to do?" Do you want to market a product or service or both? Which ever one you choose be sure to be knowledgeable about it. Know the product you promote and be able to stand behind the service you provide. Nothing can be more damaging than providing less than the best quality available. It is said that bad news travel faster than good and that first impressions are the lasting ones. This has proven true especially in business lives.
Next you want to ask yourself "When will I find time to build my business?" Until you business starts to thrive, you may want to keep your full time job. You will need to set aside time to build your business. The time you set aside must me used for the purpose of building your business with no interruptions or distractions. It is a business and you have set aside business hours.
Thirdly, you need to know, not think, but know just how much energy and determination you have to make your home business work for you. Do you have what it takes to wrestle through the road blocks that are bound to arise? Or will you wince and run away at the first sign of trouble? Will you give up the first time someone says no thank you or will you keep at it until you get that yes?
Now that you have your determination, your product or service, and your time set aside, you have to figure out how you are going to market your business. Will you use on-line or off-line strategy? Keep in mind you can always do both. You can use all methods available that are financially suiting for you. You can start small and build upon it.
Last but certainly not least how will you finance your business? This is probably the most important question of all. Now that you know what you want to do, how will you get it started? What avenues do you have available to you. Tap into your resources or borrow some.
