I had read in photography magazines and on many different websites about the sheer quality offered by these more high-end cameras. It was now just a case of deciding which one I wanted to buy. So I gave myself the task of finding out as much as I could about them, and soon came to realize that one particular camera stood out above many of the others: the Nikon D700.

Your Photos Will Turn Out Just Right!

There are a number of things about the D700 that allow you to specify how you want the end result to look. the D700's Picture Control System allows you to manipulate your photos to parameters that have been preset: Standard, Monochrome, Vivid and Neutral. Depending on the setting you choose, tweaks are made to the image sharpening, tone compensation, brightness, and the overall tone and saturation of the image.

The Active D-Lighting technology uses localized tone control to boost the detail in the shadows and highlights whilst keeping the overall contrast looking natural. You can either do this manually or let it pick the best settings automatically. This means you'll still get great shots even if the lighting is difficult.

Great At Coping With Difficult Lighting!

Even if the Nikon D700 didn't have these new in-camera image enhancement technologies, it would still be better than many other digital SLRs at shooting in difficult lighting. It has a low signal-to-noise ration and a wide dymanic range, and this is due to the large pixel size of 8.45 m. The Nikon D700's maximum ISO of 6400 can be expanded up to 25,600. As you probably know, the ISO determines how sensitive the image sensor is to light. Many lower-prices SLRs only have a maximum ISO of 1,600, so with an ISO range that can go as high as 25,600, you're really set to squeeze the most light out of any scene. There are many low-light scenarious where other digital cameras would clearly struggle, but the D700 would have no problem at all.

Say No To Dust!

If you've owned SLR cameras before, you'll be well aware of how dust can pose a problem, especially if you tend to change lenses a lot. Well, all that is set to change now, as new to the Nikon D700 is a revolutionary Active Dust Reduction System which has been specifically designed for the FX-format sensor. This uses four distinct vibration frequencies to get dust from the sensor. Not only that, the materials that the shutter mechanism and mirror box are made from are naturally resistant to dust anyway.

The Nikon D700 Won't Let You Down!

If you want a highly durable digital SLR of a professional quality, the D700 is the camera for you. With its rugged magnesium-allow construction, extensive dust and moisture protection, and durable shutter mechanism tested to 150,000 cycles, the Nikon D700 is the digital SLR of choice for the highly professional digital photographer.
