Relationship Counseling - How to Live Through a Tough Relationship Break Up
Every time a relationship breaks up, be it a dating or marriage relationship
, there is loss. The biggest challenge is often not the loss itself, but our ability to accept the loss for what it is...a loss. We are creatures of habit, so even if ending the relationship was the right decision, it can still generate feelings of uncertainty and fear. These feelings of fear and uncertainty can cause us to feel like we may have made a mistake. These feelings are normal when a relationship break up happens and should not be mistaken for being signs of a poor decision.People find themselves asking many of the following questions. Did I do the right thing? What chance do I have of being happily married? Why did he/she end it? Am I cursed or something? That's a big one. How come everybody else seems so happy and I'm so blue? How will our children be impacted by our break up?There isn't necessarily a problem with a person having any of these thoughts and feelings. The most common challenge people face is found in their ability to accept these uncomfortable thoughts and feelings.Let me make this clear. It's normal to have these sort of feelings and thoughts. If you're dealing with a relationship break up, it's normal to feel out of sorts and like you're on somewhat shaky ground. What's important is to realize that this is a difficult period of time that will pass, and most importantly...you are not alone. Your experience is quite normal, it's a common thing most people go through. You are not alone. Most people go through similar if not exactly the same range of thoughts and feelings when they experience a relationship break up.In order to successfully get through a relationship break up, one needs to adjust their expectations about what they can and can't deal with in their life. They may need to get more sleep and exercise, pay closer attention to their diet and most importantly, not expect too much from themselves.A relationship break up is isolated period of time in a person's life where things are not normal. This is a transition period. A better tomorrow can result when people are patient with themselves.Below I've listed the two poorest things an individual can do when working their way through a relattionship break up. Act like it's the end of the world...it's not. Even though it sometimes feels like your world's falling apart. You will survive. In spite of the difficulties, there are many others who have been where you are now and have been able to make it through this difficult time. Behave as though no problem ever existed...there is. In order to be able to deal with the situation effectively, it's vital to be real about what's really going on. One can do a lot of damage to themselves if they try to deny the existence of the problem. Honesty is the best policy.
