Reviews of NFL Week 10 Lead by New England Beating Pittsburgh
I was not surprised that New England beat Pittsburgh. I was surprised by easily it was, especially considering there were strong whispers around the league that Patriots were a finesse team. That means in NFL terms that the Patriots were soft. The Patriots disproved that notion on the opening drive and continuing the onslaught the entire game. Tom Brady was vintage Tom Brady standing tall in the pocket and shredding the best defensive team in the league. The Patriots ran the ball and threw at will out of both their three tight end package and their multiple receiver packages. The Patriots offensive line was stellar. Brady was hardly touched. He had time to comb his hair and call his wife back there. The Patriots defense rebounded after getting worked over last week against the Cleveland Browns. They shut down the Steelers running attack, harassed and sacked Ben Roethilsberger. They gave up nothing for the first three quarters. The points and yards they gave up in the fourth was in garbage time.
The Steelers played like a team that had been on a long road trip and played tired. They had no zip on either side of the ball. They never had answers for the New England's diverse offensive sets. They were playing on their heels the entire game. I hardly heard James Harrision's or Troy Polamalu's names mentioned except for making tackles downfield. I can't remember the last time the Steelers' defense was dismantled so easily. This may in part be due that they were missing key starters on both the offensive and defensive lines. They got whipped on both sides of the ball. Tom Brady just has their number. He is a remarkable 6-1 against them. The Steelers won't admit it publicly, but privately they probably hope to avoid the Patriots in the playoffs.
Dallas beating the New York Giants. This was shocker a first glance, but in reality it wasn't. The Cowboys had a new coach. They practiced in pads for the first time since training camp and they actually played hard for maybe the first time in about a month. They also did not shoot themselves in the foot with numerous costly penalties and turnovers. A good recipe for winning. I can't fault the Giants. It was human nature for them to be flat. The Giants were on a three game winning streak routing each of their opponents. They blew the doors off the Cowboys the last time they played them. They would have to been blind to see the Cowboys had quit the last three games. They looked unprepared for that kind of effort by the Cowboys. The Giants even with missing offensive line starters and noted Cowboy killer Steve Smith thought they going to roll the Cowboys again. By the time they realized the Cowboys were not going to roll over, they were already down by two touchdowns and in fight. You spot any team two touchdowns you are not going to win.
Atlanta edging Baltimore. The Ravens defense was not the same when Ray Lewis went out with injury. Roddy White got away with a little shove on the game winning touchdown pass. The referees must have been thinking about what strip club they were going to later.
Indianapolis over Cincinnati. Peyton Manning and the Colts did just enough to win. The Bengals do just enough to lose every week, every year, every decade.
Buffalo edging Detroit. The Bills finally win a close game. Detroit plays hard every week, but they seem to be missing one key ingredient, luck.
Jacksonville over Houston. The outstanding comeback by the Texans against the Jaguars was wiped out on the last second touchdown pass by the Jaguars The Texans new Hail Mary defensive word should be. "Knock it into the 25th row!"
Miami beating Tennessee. Tyler Thigpen leads the Dolphins to victory. I'm thinking he wasn't on anybody's fantasy football team. I hope the Titans don't have a post game meal. I hear Randy Moss is a raging foodie.
Chicago over Minnesota. I'm amazed that teams don't cover and still kick to Devin Hester. Don't they know he is the Bears only offensive weapon? The Vikings are now officially done. I'm wondering when Vikings owner Zigi Wilf is going to put an end to the most hated coach in the world.
Tampa Bay smashing Carolina. Josh Freeman is Tampa Bay's best quarterback ever. Jon Gruden wishes he was still their coach. The Panthers are just plain bad. They still won't make Jay Leno monologue because he doesn't know they exist.
New York Jets edging Cleveland. The Jets win a close one despite three missed kicks by their soon to be ex kicker Nick Folk. The Browns played with great effort up until two defensive players gave an "Ole" to Santonio Holmes on his game winning catch and run in overtime.
Denver blasting Kansas City. The Broncos rolled the Chiefs. Coach Todd Haley had no reason not to shake Josh McDaniel's hand. He should remember McDaniel's Bronco's gave up 59 points to the Raiders.
San Francisco edging St. Louis. Troy Smith is quickly making 49er fans forget Jeff Garcia. The Rams let a golden opportunity slip away to put Mike Singletary into crazy talk during post game press conference.
Seattle over Arizona. The Seahawks finally played like angry zombies and won on the road. Then again it was against a team with a revolving quarterback situation. Did Neil Lomax play this week?
