Revolutionary Technologies That Can Change Our Life
Technical and scientific progress is developing extremely quickly nowadays
. New technologies are being presented nearly every day and introduced into our life almost every week. Our life may change completely in the next few years.
Light Revolution
Physicians Jong Kyu Kim and E. Fred Schubert of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute made a detailed prognosis for the perspective of one technology that already exists and may be easily applied wherever it is possible. The technology in question is a simple LED. Now they are used predominantly in some technical devices as indicators. If they are applied everywhere instead of incandescent lamps and neon tubes, the level of energy consumption will be 13-17 times lower than today. The scientists have calculated that an incandescent lamp emits the light of 16 lumens per watt. A fluorescent lamp emits 64 lumens per watt. A neon lamp emits 80. The rate for a modern light diode is between that of a fluorescent lamp and a neon lamp. The potential light emission of this light bearer for the next few years is 213 lumens per watt. The maximum rate is 320 lumens per watt.
Airplane of the Future
Zephyr, an unmanned airplane constructed by QinetiQ Company, has finished another flight. This plane is equipped by solar cells placed on its wings and a number of lithium accumulators inside. Zephyrs latest flight lasted for 14 days and 21 minute. This is the longest term of a non-stop flight for all the types of airplane.
Brain to Brain Communication
Christopher James of the University of Southampton has made a series of successful experiments with the Brain-Computer Interface (BCI). He succeeded to apply the technology to different devices. The next step was the brain to brain communication through the internet. The experiment he made in 2009 proved it possible. The amount of the information transferred was only a few bytes. The scientists are planning to make it higher.
