Rumors Say Apple Will Release A Smaller Ipad Within This Year

Apple is being repeatedly reported to plans a smaller ipad

, but it never admits or refuses it. With time passing, those rumors about a smaller ipad get more and more real and specific. Now latest rumors say that the new ipad mini may be released within this year, probably in October.

This smaller ipad is said to have a screen of 7-inch, smaller than the current 9.7-inch model. And this ipad mini won't have the high-definition screen featured on the iPad that was released in March. And some of the ipad parts would be different since the model would be smaller. So of course the price of it will be cheaper than the current ones.

Someone may wonder why Apple wants to release a smaller ipad, because the ipads on the market are already the best sellers in most countries. Besides, Steve Jobs, the former CEO of Apple Inc. once publicly refused the value of a 7-in tablet and said he had no interest in producing a smaller tablet than the present ipad. So why does Apple change its mind?

The most obvious reason is to make its ipad product line more versatile like the ipod line. iPod is the world's top music player and comes in various sizes and colors. Now ipad is positioned as high-emd tablets on the market. When customers look for low-end tablet, they would go for amazon kindle and Nook which have 7-inch screen and cost $199. On the end of last month, Google released its tablet Nexus 7, and earlier this month Microsoft announced a tablet called Surface that will have a similar screen size as the current iPad. It seems everybody wants a bite from the tablet market. To embrace the coming more fierce competing, Apple ipad mini would probably have the same price with amazon kindle.

If the smaller ipad do come out with the price of $199, it would be hard for other 7-inch tablet to compete with it. Apple could earn a similar profit on a smaller iPad as it did on the normal ipad because it will probably use the cheaper screen. And Apple can also charge more for the device without sacrificing sales. Besides, Apple has millions of apps developed specially for ipad, which would be available for ipad mini. And millions of ipad accessories manufacturers make cool ipad accessories for Apple.

However, whatever rumors say about the smaller ipad, Apple doesnt comment on it. It doesnt accept it or refuse it, which only makes the rumors more. And some optimists think Apple is saying a silent yes.
