STOREFRONT SECURITY AND ACCESS CONTROL FOR BUSINESSES
STOREFRONT SECURITY AND ACCESS CONTROL FOR BUSINESSES
So you have suffered your first, or maybe umpteenth, break in. It's time to add another layer to your security system, beyond that DVR and motion sensor!
Folding scissor gates will provide a visual deterrence factor that will give would be intruders second thoughts.
Your choice of gates should have features that are standard such as built on locks, as opposed to padlocks and chains, to keep a positive message for your viewing clientele.
Also, the steel of the gates obviously should be the hardest and least flexible which is the cold rolled variety, and in tubular form rather than a flat piece or a shaped piece....think of a drinking straw and how much stronger it is compared to a flat piece of paper.
The finish on your gates can be raw ( not recommended for storefronts), spray painted which will last for 6 months if you're lucky, or powder coated which will give you years of a durable brilliant shine.
Scissor gates can run inside your stores window frames or along the floor....in either case do not opt for a steel wheel, as it will likely destroy your carpet, sills, etc. Choose a nylon rubber compound that will not mar ceramic flooring, hardwood, or carpet and rolls easily along aluminum framing.
Look for mortise cylinder locks for your door gates that can be keyed alike to your existing door key, and can have thumb turns on the inside...this,of course, will require a very tight lattice to prevent anyone from reaching through.
The mechanical nature of scissor gates is that the points of intersection (where the tubes criss cross) are riveted...it is preferable to have NO rivets facing the street side of the gates...why give the bad guys any leverage?
Your front door uses hinges to turn...your gates should too....mere pivot points are unsightly and not as smooth to operate.
As with the rivets the hinges should be hidden when the gates are locked.
Lastly, when you are open for business, your gates should unlock, compress, and stack neatly to the side so as not be visible from outside the store....let's not be sending the wrong message to our potential clients!!
