San Francisco 49ers - The First San Francisco Based Major League Team

, the San Francisco 49ers, also called the Niners, started off in 1946 as part of the AAFC, the All-America Football Conference and became part of the National Football League in 1950. The first NFL team that won five Super Bowls, the record of the Niners has been beaten only be the Pittsburgh Steelers who have won the Super Bowls six times, and matched by the Dallas Cowboys who have also won five times.

The Niners have also won the League title five times - tying for fifth place with three other teams, after the twelve titles won by the Green Bay Packers, the nine titles won by the Chicago Bears, the seven titles won by the New York Giants and the six titles won by the Steelers.

The most memorable teams of the Niners played in the 1980s and the early 1990s - four of their Super Bowl titles were won in the 1980s. The headquarters of the Niners are in Santa Clara, and their home field is Candlestick Park in San Francisco. The 49ers, after whom the Niners were named, were the prospectors who came to North California during the Gold Rush in 1849.

In the 2010 draft, the San Francisco 49ers picked Anthony Davis, Mike Iupati, Taylor Mays, Navorro Bowman, Anthony Dixon, Nate Byham, Kyle Williams and Phillip Adams - an offensive tackle from Rutgers ranked 17th in the draft, an offensive guard from Idaho, ranked 17th overall, a safety from USC, 49th in the second round, an LB, an RB, a TE, a WR and a DB.

The upcoming season looks like it is going to be quite an exciting one for fans of the 49ers - with their interesting picks and trades at this year's draft. However, only time will tell whether they've put together a strong team or not.
