Sap Business One Customizations Or Is It The Right Way To Go

. However SAP B1 is different and coding is not required in order to extend tables or add user defined ones. Of course if you need logic animation in your user defined elements then there is Software Development Kit which is friendly to Microsoft Visual Studio and such languages as VB and C# where you can analyze code samples. But if all you need is just add fields for additional data entry and storing then software development is not required. Let us walk you through in user interface. Please note that we do not pretend to be official user manual or too technical to help programmers. Our goal here is to educate SAP BO user community:

1.Metadata. Business One way is to enable customization and user defined object in settings. Your custom tables and fields are recorded directly in the company SQL database. This way guarantees that you will not have problems with future version updates and patches applying

2.Exercises. Lets assume that you are on version 8.81. Launch user workstation login and follow the path: Tools -> Customization Tools -> User Defined Fields Management. Here you have the tool to extend existing tables or documents if you are not technical. We are trying to make this paper feasible for managerial personnel and programming experience is not required. Lets now try to create new table from scratches. Again in Tools -> Customization Tools pick User Defined Tables Setup. It is the place where you create new table. Please note that user interface is created automatically and you can edit fields in your custom table through Tools -> User Defined Windows

3.Crystal Reporting. Well as far as we could judge SAP acquired Business Objects and Crystal Reports in its assets. Crystal should be recommended for managerial reports design. If you are looking for something like professional Invoice, Bill of Lading, Tender announcement or Sales Commission report then consider Crystal as reports design tool. Some advises if you dont mind. Every reporting tool including ODBC compliant MS Excel, Access or Crystal is good in representing final picture. However they have to be flexible in connection to SQL database and providing wizard options for report designer in learning curve phase

4.C# programming. We would like to recommend the following scenario. Feel free to create user defined table and then feed the data via SQL script or stored procedure. The table should be considered as staging. Then program document creation in SDK in Microsoft Visual Studio. Custom code is required to be owned by you. Every couple of year you should expect new version and historical version technical support abandoning. SDK customization should be recompiled in the environment where new SAP Business One workstation is installed with its DLL libraries

5.VB Coding. Software Development Kit provides code snippets in both Visual Basic and Microsoft C#. VB is fine and if you are developer in Delphi with reasonably experience to read code samples in C++ then you should be able to do the job
