This system operates from electricity, but, usually has a battery back-up. In addition to fire protection, this type of system is usually part of a total security system protecting you from burglaries.

Residential sprinklers: Sprinklers limit the size and impact of a fire - keeping the fire from spreading. The sprinklers act fast and work with your home's water system. Sprinklers not only put out fires but contols them by lowering the air temperature. Only one or two sprinklers near the fire activate so there is no flooding. The fire department should be called to shut the valves off. This is so they may determine when it is safe to turn the water off.
