School Year Success - 7 Tips To Help Your Child Start Off On The Right Track
With the new school year starting, it is time to take the initiative and make a conscious
effort to help your child start off the new year on the right track. Now is a great time to show your child that you care about and support them in their education.
As a parent, you not only serve as a model for your children but also as a source of encouragement for them. There is always something that you can do to help them progress smoothly through the school year. You can start off by applying the following tips:
1. Set realistic and measurable goals with your child. Take the time to sit down and talk with your child and make a list of goals with them. After the goals are set, post them in a place where th
Share:ey will be seen as a daily reminder. Also, periodically sit down and review these goals throughout the year with your child.
2. Verbally affirm your child's ability to succeed. Studies show that your child will more than likely accomplish the expectations that you set for them. Let your child know through verbal encouragement that you believe in him or her.
3. Develop strong lines of communication with your child's teachers. Make it a point to visit your child's school within the first two weeks of classes and meet their teachers. Establishing a good relationship with teachers at the beginning will improve communication with the teachers and enable you to successfully monitor your child's progress in school.
4. Establish a routine schedule for your child. It is a good idea to get your child into a daily routine. For example, set specific times for your child to do his or her homework, watch TV, eat dinner, and go to bed each night.
5. Help your child navigate online resources. The Internet is an incredible resource for educational purposes. Make sure your child is familiar with online reference materials such dictionary.com and thesaurus.com, and that they understand how to research topics through google.com or other search engines.
6. Spend time daily reviewing your child's homework. Before the conclusion of each day, review your child's work and make sure they are doing their homework properly. This is a good way to measure how well your child comprehends the material being taught, and it also shows them that you are interested in their progress.
7. Visit your child's campus as much as possible. By making an effort to establish a strong presence at your child's school, you will actively demonstrate to your child that you care about and support them.
