Should You Build Your Own Archery Equipment?

Should You Build Your Own Archery Equipment?

Archery and Bows have been around for a very long time. References to bows have been found dating back to 2,500 BC, so 4,500 years ago! They were made solely of wood so true evidence is not available, yet.

In the beginning Bows were used to keep invaders away and to hunt for food. There are still some cultures which rely on Bows to put meat on the table but the majority of bows are now used for recreational or competitive sport.

The Equipment concerned with archer is a Bow and an Arrow but there can be much more to that than meets the eye. If you want to get into archery you should think about making your own bow your own arrows and your own targets.

There are many kits out there for building you own bow but unfortunately there are to many types of bow for us to go into in this article. But, rest assured that if you want to build your own bow you will be able to find details all over the Internet.

You can also make your own arrows, this is a lot simpler than making a bow. What you need to start of with is a shaft which can be made from wood, aluminium or carbon. Now, at the sharp end you can create you tip or point.

The Arrow head should match the type of job it is going to be used for. If It's going to be used for hunting then use a broad head and if you simple want to pierce a hole in a piece of paper then a simple brass tip is fine.

The flights can be bought independently too. You can use feathers or plastic, or with a little practice you can use Feathers you have found yourself. Goose feathers were traditionally used on arrows.

Finally, there is the Nock which can simply be a v' or a u' cut in the end of the arrow or a piece of metal or plastic attached on the end.

It is rather hard to make a bow string for yourself unless you want to go into that technology. So i would recommend that you buy one for yourself.

Archery targets, the round ones, you connect with target archery are a different kettle of fish, because you definitely can assemble them yourself. You first have to get hold of a pile of straw and then take handfuls of it. Truss these handfuls of straw into 'ropes' and make a circle like a Catherine Wheel out of them.

Keep sewing these together until you get the size you require. Then attach it too an easel or a tree, then attach a paper target to the front.

So too conclude I think it is all down to how experienced you are in bow making and how much time and money you have!

Hope you enjoy making you own Archery equipment!
