Six Tips For Using Facebook For Business
In any economy, but especially in down turns, marketers look to get the greatest leverage out of their efforts. Recently, a new marketing tool appeared: social networking. In the past three years, small businesses have increasingly turned to sites like Facebook to improve their business-to-business marketing.
People Buy from People They Like Why? Because customers prefer buying from people they like. This is as true in business-to-business sales as it is in the business-to-consumer market. Facebook enables you to become friends - with hundreds of people worldwide.
Six Ways Facebook Can Help Your Business I list here six ways you can use Facebook to help your business - without trying to hard sell any product or service. This is a new way of marketing. Downplay the business side of your being on Facebook. Stress building relationships. I know, that sounds contradictory. Bear with me a moment.
First, Show You Are Human First, use Facebook to let your "friends" see you as a person like them; someone they can find something in common with; someone they can like. Then, when they become comfortable with you, they will want to do business with you because they first came to like and trust you.
Maybe You Shouldn't Show Your Dark Side By the way, when showing your personality, use discretion. Keep it positive. Share a bit on your family if you feel comfortable doing so or describe you hobbies and interests. Join groups that interest you. And act like a friend -- think of others first: send tips and links related to their interests and post testimonials for them on their walls.
Second, Invite Business Associates to Become Facebook Friends Second, skew your Facebook activities towards business by inviting business associates to become "friends." While I invite family and friends outside of business, I also ask customers, prospects, and vendors to be friends. Additionally, I invite people whom I want to get to know better. One of my mentors, Graham White, has a separate Facebook account for family and close personal friends.
Third, Join Business Related Groups Third, join groups that are related to your business Interests. You can have multiple interests this way. Then people who share any of those interests can join that group and take part in its discussions. You can even invite people to join your group. Additionally, you can send out notifications to members of your group.
Fourth, Post Business Events Fourth, post events for business, like teleseminars, webinars, and even physical seminars. Send invitations to them through the Facebook Event Coordinator.
Fifth, Use Facebook to Do Research Fifth, Facebook provides fantastic opportunities to research your customers, prospects and vendors. Use what people freely share on Facebook to better understand them. Besides their profiles, people on Facebook upload pictures, write comments on their walls, and post what they are doing now. Here your friends will often tell you more about their personal interests than the typical database researching all the public records can tell you.
Sixth, Include a Signature Block on Notes The sixth and final point about using Facebook for business is to include a signature on any notes you send friends just like you do on emails and regular letters. In my signature, I make an offer of a free article or report that I hope they will want and include a link. If they follow that link, it takes them to an opt-in page for mailings from me. Then my autoresponder will send out periodic newsletters or mailings so that I can start to build a stronger relationship with them. I hope these six ways to use Facebook for social marketing help you build stronger relationships resulting in enjoyable sales that are mutually rewarding.
