Solar Light Tubes Are An Affordable Way To Make Your Home More Energy Efficient

Many of us want to make our homes more energy efficient

. This is why solar light tubes are becoming more popular. They cost more upfront, but in the long run can save you a lot of money and make the inside of your home more attractive.

The principle is very simple. Light is collected by the dome on your roof, reflected through the tube and diffused by the fixture in the ceiling of the room where the tube is installed. A single tube light can brighten a fair sized room, depending on its diameter and how it is made.

It's not just their appearance once they're installed that some people like. People who are into doing home improvements on their own may find solar tube light installation to be within their skill level. It's not a terribly complex improvement to make. Others prefer to pay a professional, and as the job is only a couple of hours' work per tube for a professional, the cost can be quite reasonable.

Obviously this won't completely eliminate your lighting expenses. You'll still need to use electricity at night. But so often you need light in your home during the day, more than what comes through windows, and this is where solar tubes do well. It's especially nice when you want to keep your windows covered to keep the heat of the sunlight out. Tubes let the light in, but not all that much of the heat.

Tube lights also filter out much of the UV component of natural sunlight. This means the light that comes through is easier on your furnishings.

You can choose a diameter of tube that will look great in whatever room you're installing it in. Smaller rooms usually look better with smaller diameter tubes. Larger rooms do well with larger diameters and possibly even more than one light tube installed.

They're also wonderful if you prefer to have privacy in your home. Opening window blinds lets anyone who can see the window see into your home. Solar light tubes don't give anyone a view into your home. The day doesn't even have to be bright and sunny for your room to be lit. The tubes will spread out what light is available throughout the room.

Energy efficiency is a great goal, but it needs to be combined with sense. You have to consider your budget and the overall benefit you're getting. Solar tube lights are great because they're relatively low cost, attractive and use no electricity at all once they're installed.
