On the other hand, you don't want to go in the complete other direction and make the house look empty because it still needs to look homely enough to attract buyers.

Looking through property magazines will give you an idea of what current buyers are looking for when choosing a new home so you could perhaps base your home on a similar wavelength. You could also view some houses on the market yourself and scope out the competition somewhat and what buyers are looking for.

Moreover, I would advise you to complete any DIY jobs within the house as cracks and imperfections can be unsightly and off-putting for potential buyers. In addition, DIY issues in the home could force you to lower the price of your property if the buyer requests a survey or Homebuyers report. Also you could consider re-decorating slightly. There's no need to revamp the whole house of course, however neutral colours will be more appealing for buyers as they can then picture what they wish to do with the house.

Furthermore, to help along a quick sale it is a good idea to advertise your property with a number of various agencies because if you commit to an agreement with a single estate agent you will not have the wider appeal on the market. However, the negative point is that you may have to pay more fees but on the other hand you may not be against this if it means your property is sold faster.
