Splitting wins in Texas Holdem doesn't happen very often, but when it does its annoying. I hate it when this happens to me, don't you? The last thing I want is to share my hard earned cash with some other random player.

At the end of a round of poker, you will have to split the pot with another person if you both have exactly the same hand. This can happen due to a variety of causes, all of them quite uncommon. Read on for the second most probable reason this will happen.

Splitting Wins In Texas Holdem - You Both Have The Same Pocket Pair


This is so stupid when it happens. Its even funnier when they are both pocket aces. This is a very rare occurrence indeed but it does happen sometimes. What happens is you both get dealt the same pocket pairs. So you both get pocket 10's or something. Then you play the board. Usually when this happens you have a higher pair (because not many people will play to the river with just a pair of 4's).

When both players have a pair they are pretty likely to stay in the game. You could say they are more likely to go to the river and showdown because they already have a half-good hand to start with. When you have a pocket pair and another play does too you usually play on. Sometimes you're waiting for a trips but it never comes cause the other guy has the cards. Sometimes you get two pair cause there is a pair on the board, or sometimes nothing. Either way its frustrating to find the other guy has your exact cards. However this one actually gets quite a few laughs in the end and splitting the win isn't quite as tough.

So as you can see, splitting wins in Texas Holdem does happen. If you play enough Texas Holdem inevitably you will run into a situation where the rules dictate that splitting the pot is the final answer. Don't get too caught up on it, chips are chips, a win is a win.
