Starting Out: World of Warcraft
First thing you need to do is to pick aserver and enter the world.Make sure you realize that some servers are listed as PVP servers, which means they are player versus player. These are called red servers. If you choose this type of a server, understand that players of certain factions will be able to attack and kill your character.
Now it's time to create your character. My suggestion is to pick a race you're comfortable with from an aesthetic standpoint. This will be your avatar in the gaming world for as long as you play the game, make sure you like the way you look. You'll also need to pick a class. There are many different types available, although each race can only pick from a specific set of classes. If you want to be the star of thegroup, getting up close and personal with theenemies you'll be fighting, take a melee tank class such as a warrior or paladin.A tank class specializes in taking damage and keeping the enemies focus so the othergroup members can damage it and/or heal you depending on their role. If you want to be an auxiliary damage unit, adding lots of firepower to the enemy while the tank keeps it's focus, look into one of the DPS (damage per second) classes, such as a Warlock, Mage or Hunter. These classes can really help take an enemy down faster, but may not be able to survive against some higher powered foes one on one. Lastly, if you are the good samaritan type and would like to be the player responsible for keeping everyone else alive, look into a healer class such as a priest, druid or shaman. You'll be more focused on your group members than the group's enemies. Make note though, most of these classes can be used in the other roles depending on which you pick. Later in the game, you'll determine the class route your character takes, but this is a beginner's guide and on the outset you're bound to change the character you play until you're comfortable.
Once you've created your character and played around with the way he/she looks, it's time to enter the game. You'll see a brief introductory movie explaining the background of your character's race and then it's your turn to control your toon and start the adventure. Directly in front of you will be your very first quest giver. They are marked with a yellow exclamation point above their head. Right click on the quest giver, read the text they give you and set out to complete your first given task. As you complete quests, the marks over the quest givers head will change to a yellow question mark. This means you've successfully completed all parts fof the givenquest and can receive your reward. Right click the quest giver and collect. Sometimes you'll get a nice piece of armor, especially in the beginning levels, but mostly it will be experience points andcoins. This is the best way to advance as you progress through the beginnings of the game. As you complete quests, the quest givers will point your way to where you should go next.A great suggestion is to open up your map (press the M key) and look at it. The map will direct you to the general area where your quests are to be completed and will help you back to the quest givers if you get lost.
This is the game, it's terribly fun and I hope you love it as I do. Don't feel rushed, take your time, look around, the world is gorgeous and is absolutely breathtaking. Make note of players you see, maybe you'll make some friends along the way whom will grow with you and form a nice, lifelong bond.
