There are literally hundreds of exercises out there that concentrate on stomach toning, some effective and some no use whatsoever. So find a few good ones and stick with them, but don't forget the basics.
What`s your tummy doing right this second? My guess is that it`s just hanging there doing it`s own thing, while you`re hunched over the computer screen or slumped in a chair.
The stomach will tone up quite quickly with regular exercise. I see so many people working their butts off doing sit ups by the dozen, then they get up and walk away with their tummies bobbing about like a kangaroos pouch. Suck it in. No matter what you`re doing, make those muscles work.
The muscles in the stomach act a bit like a corset, so by keeping them tense, you will be toning and strengthening with little or no effort. Next time you`re out walking, pay attention to your posture. Are you walking tall and proud or shuffling along with shoulders forward and bottom out? Lift up as tall as you can and you'll probably gain a couple of inches in height and lose a few pounds of fat (from a visual point of view). And pull in that stomach. You should be able to feel both the upper abdominal muscles and the lower and pull them in individually. If you can`t, then you have quite a bit of work to do, but by pulling them in while you go about your business, you`re giving them a good chance of becoming taught and hard.
I don't mean that you should try and suck your stomach in so much that it reaches your spine! But maintaining a firm hold is a great habit to keep the muscles strong.
Many people turn to support underwear to do the job for them and this may be an option. But remember, that while you`re using something other than strength to control the stomach, the muscles are relaxing completely and so using your support pants on a regular basis is sure to make the problem worse.
