Swami Vivekananda was born on 12th January 1863 in Calcutta at 3 Gourmohan Mukarjee Street in Kolkata.This famous place has to be visited by every tourist who visits Kolkata and will be a great experience for to visit this great spiritual leader's ancestral place where he lived during his early days.
This house is currently being managed by "Ramakrishna Mission" established by Swami Vivekananda himself on 11th May 1987 after his return from World's Parliament of Religions, Chicago. Here is where Swami Vivekananda used his powerful opening statement "My dear Brothers and Sisters of America" during his address which made him very popular not only in Chicago but the Whole of America and the Western world.
The ancestral house has Swamiji's Birth place. This room has a nicely decorated Swami Vivekananda's photograph and a place for worship for his disciples. As we progress further a memorial cum museum where the articles used by Swami Vivekananda, His family album and many of his favorites including his musical instruments are displayed.The true personality of this legend can be understood as you enter the museum. One can really experience how Kid Bileh (this is how Swami Vivekananda is been called by his parents during his childhood) is transforming into a young, brave, dynamic and intelligent Narendra (Swami Vivekananda's given Name) and his quest to learn the mystery of religions and God.
