Teaching As A Career
If you have ever considered a future in Education as a teacher
, then what better career opportunity could you find than a rewarding future and long term career.
Your school days are so very important, the harder you work then the better future you map out for yourself.
In order to start the training process as a teacher you will need to achieve at least 5 GCSE grades A-C. An A level is then required in one of the core subjects such as English, Maths or Science.
BED offers a 4 year course which will lead to qualified teacher status, alternatively the PGCE is a 1 year course but requires degree entry level. If you are a mature student you can complete an access course before going on to the 4 year BED course.
To see whether a career in teaching is for you, you could always volunteer to work in a primary school or could try to get a position as a classroom assistant which does not require a formal qualification.
Primary and Secondary placements are very different so you need to decide if you would prefer to teach younger or older children.
There is also the opportunity to go on a graduate teacher training programme which is a paid work placement, although these are few and far between and may not be very easy to find.
If you are interested in becoming a sports teacher then a degree in sports science would be a great start once you have completed your A levels. If you do this in addition to another subject you would stand a better chance of a good placement and it would give you a better chance of working in an independant/public school as they have a big focus on sports if that is something that appeals to you.
There are several Internet Job Sites and Job boards that advertise vacancies in the education sector. If you register your details and upload a current CV, you will be able to search for suitable positions both in the UK and overseas. Alternatively, if you are unable to find a suitable position on a permanent basis then you could register with an agency as a supply teacher. This will give you great experience and an insight to the Job role and the varied way schools are run. The average daily payment figure is around 120.
A career in teaching is rewarding and you will have a big impact on society if you do a good Job. What better way to see the personal development of a child and know that you have helped them along the way.
