The Appeal Of Educational Travel
How many school trips can you remember going on as a child
? Most people will be able to remember one or more, and there are some very good reasons for this. They tend to stick in the mind more than lessons in a classroom do, simply because the circumstances and surroundings are very different from the norm.
This holds true for all kinds of travel outings, from school trips to Paris to journeys to local areas and destinations for the day. However it does not matter where the trip takes place what matters is the education and insight the pupils gain as a result.
Very often the destinations for
educational travel will depend on the subject being taught. For example museums are very popular in terms of history and teaching the pupils how life was lived long ago. Languages will often try and go to countries that speak the language as a matter of course, which is where school trips to Paris and other destinations come in.
Learning is often more successful when it takes place in a setting that enhances it and makes it more exciting. For example, reading about a time in history the Second World War for example can be dull because it is not brought to life. But if the pupils are taken to a museum that has a display of Second World War memorabilia, it becomes a very different event indeed. Being able to see the inside of a bomb shelter or take part in a realistic air raid, with sounds and images from the time, can help to add more to the learning process.
This is why educational trips are so appealing and why they will continue to be so for a long time to come. Regardless of the age of the child or what topics they are learning, travelling outside the classroom can bring a whole new dimension to the learning process. These trips must be carefully planned of course, in order to bring the best results for all concerned. However when they are established in the school year there is something to look forward to and to build towards.
Imagine for example that a language class is going to go on a trip to France in the coming months. In the run up to that trip the class can discuss what will happen and how to ensure they are able to converse with the locals. Specific lessons may be planned in order to prepare the class for the trip ahead. This will inspire them to make the most of the lessons and to look forward to the trip that is still to come.
Its good to know school trips are still just as good as they always were. We may not always realise just how much we learn from them until later on, but that is no bad thing.
