, which when translated from Guarani stands for "big waters." The Iguazu Falls is comprised of a long line of waterfalls and cascades that still model the volcanic terrain as they did in ancient times. The falls are situated a short ride from Puerto Iguazu. Because of their uniqueness, the falls were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and are protected as a natural wonder.

Still, because of the area's popularity among tourists plenty of conveniences aimed at the weary traveler have appeared on the park's grounds. While the Iguazu Falls are still the main attraction, there are others made by the human hand that put it all together in what is called today the Iguazu Theme Park.

Certain rules must be obeyed as the site needs to be preserved. If you come with your car you will have to park it in a parking lot, as only foot access is allowed inside the park. While the wild side in kept inside, you will be able to eat at one of the many fast foods in the area or buy souvenirs from gift shops.

Be aware that the park closes each day at seven o'clock in the evening. There is only one exception to this rule and that is the full moon tour which happens once a month.

Inside the park you will have the unique chance to enjoy sightseeing incredible rainforests still rich in various species of birds, mammals, and reptiles. However, it is strongly advised to stick to tourists' paths as these animals are not less dangerous just because they live in a naturally preserved park. The place is known for housing poisonous snakes, jaguars, and pumas.

Word has it that the first Spaniard to see the Iguazu Falls was Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca back in 1541. A commemorative plaque states that the explorer did enter the lands inhabited by the Guarani Indians and saw the falls.

Accommodations on site can be reserved at the Sheraton Hotel that offer guest rooms facing the falls as well as resort like amenities and a rejuvenation spa.

Eating options include the hotel's restaurants, fast food eateries, a pizza restaurant, and a parrilla. If you are not satisfied with these choices you can always travel to Puerto Iguazu and eat there.

The admission fare is $10 for foreign tourists, but the next day you will only pay half price.

Traveling from Puerto Iguazu to the park is easy as you can take one of the many buses that carry passengers back and forth. The fare is quite cheap and as there are only 20 kilometers between the two points, the ride is very short and pleasant.
