The Band Perry won Top New Vocal Duo or Group of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards tonight and then beat out Top New Solo Vocalist of the Year winner Eric Church for the honor of Top New Artist.Even though I love country music, at first, I was thinking The Band Perrywho? The disc reached gold certification in only four months and such an achievement deserves to be celebrated! On hand to present the siblings with their plaque were label president Jimmy Harnen, Big Machine president Scott Borschetta, and TBP manager Bob Doyle.

For the Perrys, the song is more than a conversation topic or even their first big hit it's the song that taught them how to write as a trio. Kimberly wrote "If I Die Young" alone, then brought the song to her brothers to help her fill it out musically. The group sat in a circle Kimberly on her guitar, Neil with his mandolin and Reid on his bass and kept playing through it until "it got its shape and solidified.""We had never done that process before and it works for us," Kimberly says. "Now we can't write melody apart from lyric apart from music. It all has to happen at the same time.""Our constant strive is to not sacrifice lyric for melody or melody for lyric," Reid adds. "Our best way of doing that is doing it all at one time."
