The Best Self Defense Tips For Seniors-the Top Five

This is no news to you I am sure-the senior population is the fastest growing segment of our society

. Opportunists, scam artists, burglars, robbers and petty crooks salivate over the 'easy pickins' seniors present at home, on the road and just everyday activities-especially shopping.

They see seniors as easy 'targets of opportunity' especially older women. Knowing that is a little edge because armed with that knowledge you can prepare and make yourself less vulnerable.

How?

1.Learn some basic Self Defense Techniques-There are several self defense DVD's that don't require any special athletic ability and are not strenuous. Get a group and learn together and make it a social thing. The 8 basic moves of Jeet Kune Do (JKD) will get you out of 95 % of all street confrontations and is a great place to start.

2.Don't be a target-Walk with a sense of Confidence. Believe it or not the bad guys look for anyone who walks with their head down and is distracted-like talking on a cell phone.

3.Walk in pairs-Two or more people walking together are much less likely to be victims of an attack so go everywhere with a buddie. Even if it is just leaving a grocery store at night ask someone to go with you to your car.

4.Daytime activities. Try to do all of your chores and running around in the daytime. The facts support the notion that the bad guys don't like light and do most of their work at night under cover of darkness.

5.Carry-Carry some self defense products. The bad guys don't like noise so a personal alarm is the number one recommendation. They are easy to use, inexpensive and if you get in trouble will draw attention from hundreds of yards away. Pepper sprays are next followed by stun guns. Carry all three for best protection.

A well rounded self defense strategy should feature a basic self defense techniques course, a good pepper spray and stun device. These self defense products can be your best friends in a time of need. What are you waiting for?

Remember too that all self defense products are meant to give you time to get away from a dangerous situation-nothing more.

If you feel threatened by an assailant point a charging stun gun at him and hold it up for the bad guys to see the flying current and hear the sounds. From a distance the crackling noise alone and blue sparks that stun guns give off when activated may be enough to keep attackers at bay.

If you are in the market for a self defense product look for quality, effectiveness, and a biggie-LEGALITY. Stun guns are not legal in some states. Some states have restrictions on pepper sprays. Check with your local police department first before you get one.
