The Dangers of Heat Remedied with AC Units and Emergency Steps
Most of us have all experienced high heat and humidity
. It's not pleasant. Summertime heat exhaustion is no laughing matter. Over exposure to heat can cause many health problems and can even kill small children, the elderly and others at risk. It is important to take proper care of yourself and others when temperatures are at their worst.
There are many signs and symptoms involved with heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Heat exhaustion is brought on by overexposure to high temperatures over a few days' time. Symptoms such as heavy sweating, paleness, muscle cramps, tiredness, weakness, dizziness, headache, nausea, vomiting, and fainting should be addressed immediately. A person who's skin is cool and clammy, has a fast pulse that is weak and is breathing too quickly and shallowly is combined with one or more of the symptoms above is most likely experiencing heat exhaustion.
If heat exhaustion is not treated very quickly it can lead to heat stroke, which is a much more serious situation. Heat stroke is a medical emergency and needs a doctor's treatment immediately. If a person with high blood pressure is experiencing heat exhaustion, or if the symptoms are severe or the person with symptoms has a heart condition they also need a doctor's attention as quickly as possible. Heat exhaustion can bring on heart attacks in vulnerable people.
To treat a person with heat exhaustion it is important to get them hydrated and cooled off quickly. Good ways to cool off a person with heat exhaustion is to set them down in front of
AC units. Air conditioners should be set on the coolest possible temperatures and the fan should be set on high. If your air conditioner is not getting cool enough to ease the symptoms of heat exhaustion, you need emergency
AC contractors. Let the person rest. It is important that they do not move around too much while in the cooling off period.
Hydrate the person as much as possible. If Gatorade is not available, here is a recipe for homemade Gatorade that is used for medical emergencies by medical professionals in third world countries: one handful of sugar, on pinch of salt, one liter of water. Stir it up and give it to the patient.
If the person is comfortable standing without fainting, get them in a cool shower or bath. If they are unable to stand, give them a sponge bath with cool water. Be gentle. Let the person get changed into lightweight clothing as soon as possible.
If you are confused about whether or not the person in question has heat exhaustion or heat stroke, contact a doctor and look for a few of the following symptoms. A person with heat stroke will not be sweating, has a high temperature, seems to be confused, angry or disoriented, is having difficulty breathing, hallucinates, has a seizure or cannot be awakened after fainting, they probably have heat stroke. Heat stroke is a very serious medical emergency and cannot be treated properly without a doctor.
