The Energy Of The Future

What are the energy sources of the future? And is it possible to create a list of these sources

? Some sources of energy already belong to this, such as nuclear, solar, wind.Sources are still struggling to replace oil and coal, but this is maybe just ill will rather than technological limitations or lack of efficiency.

So solar power and wind power, for example, are no longer "fiction", but they are part of our everyday life and make it even more in the coming decades. But then what will be the "true" energy of the future? In short, what is brewing in the pot of science?

1) The first energy of the future, I think, will be nuclear fusion. I say that because nuclear fusion is nothing but the same energy that makes stars shine. For efficiency and the abundance of energy that is capable of producing nuclear fusion could provide a solution almost "final" for our energy problems. The problem is that achieving it is very difficult, very difficult, so that its real use for a talk about it "maybe" from several decades. Nuclear fusion, if you can hack it, change the world and human society in a profound way, because the energy at that point will no longer be a problem.

2) Biofuels. That biofuel is another promising field. These fuels would be obtained through the "work" done by some genetically modified microorganisms are able to "digest" some substances can be easily found by turning them into more complex chemical compounds that would be used as fuel. For example Escherichia coli (a bacteria normally present within the intestine), if appropriately modified by genetic point of view, becomes able to digest cellulose transforming it into a mixture of complex molecules can provide a lot of energy in the combustion. To put it simply, these bacteria ferment wood and straw and the fermentation product is an excellent fuel! Very interesting.

3) Hydrogen from biomass. The hydrogen is a gas which burns in the atmosphere, giving as the only product of combustion water, it is therefore a gas that does not pollute. Moreover, since potentially available in large quantities (it is most abundant chemical element in the universe), would be a virtually inexhaustible energy source. The system object of study for the exploitation of hydrogen is the so-called "fuel cell". A fuel cell is an electrochemical device which directly converts the energy of a fuel into electricity and heat without passing through thermal cycles and therefore without suffering the limitations imposed on the latter by thermodynamics. In essence operates similarly to a battery, as it produces electricity through an electrochemical process; unlike the latter, however, consumes substances coming from the outside and is therefore able to run without interruption, until the system is provided fuel. The major problem to be resolved with respect to hydrogen is that, despite an abundant chemical element in the Universe, is very rare on our planet, at least in the gaseous state, although there is plenty of water bound to oxygen. We therefore need to get it from other substances, which is not always easy or economical. You can usually get it from water, hydrocarbons, some minerals, animal and vegetable bodies.

4) The sea. The sea is an immense source of energy, the problem is how to exploit such a hurry energy. In the past, several attempts have been made to exploit the energy of waves and tides, but with little success because of poor efficiency. The investment was greater than the energy that you could actually get. But now you are looking for new solutions, cheaper and more efficient. The most promising seems to the Pelamis project (from Latin: sea serpent). This is a system based on a semi-submerged structure of floats which, thanks to the movement dictated by the waves acting on the hydraulic pistons coupled to the generators able to transform the mechanical energy into electrical energy.

New energy sources are needed

Whatever the methods used to produce energy in the future, a revolution is absolutely necessary now. The rapid increase in pollution and energy needs automatically makes the old obsolete sources. This will be a slow and gradual revolution, or will be sudden? This is difficult to predict, but we are here to assist ;-)
