The Essentials Of Good Eye Care
Eyes are undoubtedly one of the most important features of our face
. Similarly, our vision is indispensable to our everyday lives. Any normal person cannot imagine his or her face without gleaming, healthy eyes and life without vision.
Light, the essential component of 'seeing' anything is the creator-s gift when it comes down to from the sun, in abundance. Usually, light does not harm the eyes in any way. In fact, eyes are naturally capable of handling and accommodating light and of using it in the right way to enable vision. The abundant supply of light from the sun is important for us and its importance in the lives of humans cannot be emphasized enough. However, most of us also realize the damage that the radiations in the sunlight can do our eyes. Exposure to UV or the Ultraviolet rays can cause long lasting negative effects on the eyes.
When the eyes get too much of sun, it also comes in direct contact with the UV rays. These rays can cause injury to the eye-lens, the cornea and the retina. All these three are essential for the proper functioning of the eyes.
Damage to the lens, retina or cornea can cause cataracts, eye sunburn and cancer of the skin in the eyelid area. Thus for people who are in constant exposure to the sun, it is highly recommended that they should protect their eyes from the sunlight. This can be done by using any kind of eye protection.
Usually sunglasses provide a great way of protecting the eyes from direct sunlight. Especially, in case of eye-injury or sensitivity of the eye, glasses can be a great way to keep the excess light and dust out of the eyes. Protective eye-wear in form of spectacles isn-t the only way of eye care. Several other preventive measures, if observed properly, can help you protect your eyes against most irritants.
These measures are:
1. Maintain proper viewing distance when watching the Television or working on the computer. The screens of TV and computer emit radiations which can cause some serious damage to the eyes over a period of time.
2. Use proper intensity lights when reading. Lights that are too dim or too bright can cause unnecessary strain on the eyes causing weakening of the eye muscles and will cause harm to the eyesight.
3. When reading something on the computer or while watching TV, it is always advisable to take regular, and if possible, frequent breaks. This gives some rest to the muscles of the eyes, thus lowering the chances of eye-fatigue.
4. Something as harmless as touching your eyes with your hands can cause eye infections if the hands are dirty. Also, poking or rubbing eyes can cause some damage. If you feel any irritation in the eyes, avoid the urge to rub it hard. Instead, just rinse it well with clean water and wait for the irritation to pass. If after several minutes, you still experience severe irritation, its best to consult an eye-doctor immediately.
5. Eat a well balanced diet consisting of Vitamin C, E, A and B. These will keep your eyesight in good shape. In fact, this is one of the most effective ways of effective eye care.
6. If you notice some blurring of vision on a regular or occasional basis, visit your doctor as soon as possible. Similarly, if there is any unusual discharge or redness in the eye, it is best to see the doctor at the earliest.
