The First Step To Organizing A Room - Defining A Space
There is nothing more overwhelming than being in a room that has clutter
. No matter what room it is, it will keep you from achieving your intended task. If it is your office, you will not be as productive. If it is your debt room you will not feel as relaxed. If it is your kitchen, you will spend time looking for things that you cannot find or moving things out of your way that are in your way.
The first step to getting organized is defining the space...how do you want to use it? Are you going to be sharing the space? What activities are going to take place in the space? What is the purpose of this room or area? Defining the area will help you decide what changes need to be made to the room.
Evaluate the storage that is in the room. Does it work for how you have defined your space? Does it need removed or can it be used and added to or reorganized? Make a list of the items that you will need storage space for within the area. Are you storing books, toys or office supplies? There are a number of stylish ways of storing almost anything.
Now, it is time to decide if the furniture fits the function of the room. Most people have more furniture than they need, making a room feel cluttered and sometimes cramped. A room will not feel comfortable if it is stuffed with furniture. Decide what you need to make the room function as the space was defined. Eliminate anything that does not fit this definition. Likewise, you may need to add a piece or two to make the room function properly.
Organizing can seem very overwhelming, but if you tackle it one space at a time, you will soon find that your whole home is in order.
