The Four Different Types Of Loft Conversion

It is becoming more and more commonplace for homeowners to look to the skies to find more space in their home

. Attic conversions are a great way to create more space in the place that you live and can be done on a relatively cheap budget with recent technological advances. About a decade ago there was a flurry of conventional extensions, many of which crassly bonded a patently much newer section of housing onto the side of what was once a beautiful home.

It is no surprise then that people are beginning to cotton on to what is the more sensible and intelligent move. In fact when you look at the figures it could be said that anyone who does not take advantage of this opportunity must be mad. These conversions start at as little as 12,000 and can increase the value of your home by almost twenty per cent. These are intriguing figures that will have even the thriftiest of homeowners looking into the possibility. However few people realise the choice they have to make, here are the four to choose from:

Dormer This is a prominent build that sticks out from the top of your existing roof. This is often the preferred option for anyone who does not have the necessary existing space in the roof for the build. It creates additional space for the staircase and the new living space.

Rooflight/ Velux This is a commonly used option for homes that have a big enough space in their attic before build. This is a cheap option that involves a simple interior development.

Mansard This adaptation is mainly used by residents in London. This is due to the fact that many of the buildings in the area will already have an existing attic space that it is aesthetically pleasing to recreate. Like the Dormer this is a rather large build, however as conversions often add up to 100,000 to properties in London it is well worth it.

Gable Up This is a commonly chosen option for those who live in semi-detached houses. It is an extension that can create a huge deal of extra space for the home owner. It is a big build and involves building the gable wall up (hence the name). Despite the large amount of work that goes into this extension it is often the best choice as the amount of value it can add to your home is astronomical and it also ensures a much more pleasant living space when it is all completed.
