. What started as a street fiction or street lit that was crudely written by authors today has transformed into a genre of its own. It is a new addition to the world of literature. It is considered to be the story of gangsters and their lives. But this genre actually tells the life of a regular American in reality.

It is believed that Kevin Thomas has brought a revolutionary change in color fiction. If you want to draw a boundary around this kind of literature because it tells you stories of colored folks of America, then it may not be looked into it that way. You can widen your point of view and call it the literature of the mass. Now if the mass consists of colored people then authors will write on them and voice their concerns like this.

Another thing that is alleged on this so called color lit is that it is too much dramatic. Well drama has to be there in literature. Otherwise literature will not be able show the appropriate outcome. People say all the characters are dramatic but what can be said in its favor is that if you do not do so then it will not interest readers!

Again the interest of a reader is what an author has to think of and work on. Even if the story has a message, the author has to be very careful with the work which should keep a reader interested in. Of course this is challenging for any author and will be a challenging task in the near future as well. This is why they have to make it easy for people to comprehend to. The reader should be able to relate to it. This will automatically keep them interested.

They simply focus on the prevalent ills of the society and the problems that they deal everyday in their lives. This is something that can be expressed by urban fiction alone for sure. In fact this kind of a fiction handles more complex issues and portrays them in a subtle way to its audiences and will keep doing this in the future as well.

Above what can be said is that this kind of literature cannot be limited to ghetto or hip hop literature only. Literature cannot be limited because its scope is vast and unending. You simply cannot put a reign on it as the horses of imagination can run as much as you want them to. In fact flights of imagination cannot be limited to anything but should be eased out to take its flight and result into The Future of Urban Fiction which should not have any limitations!
